How Come I’m Not Rich?

CHORUS: Do you ever stop to wonder what makes
someone a star?
I guess it’s not how well you sing or how well you play guitar
The longer I ponder, one question burns me like an itch
With all this talent that I’ve got--How come I’m not rich?
I’m taller than Paul Simon and my voice is just as fine
I’m less wrinkled than Mick Jagger--more sober than John Prine
Compared to Michael Jackson I’ve got more personality
But you might say the same thing about some rocks and trees
Don’t talk to me about John Tesh or that Yanni chump
Those two are just a shaggy pair of New Age Forrest Gumps
And I know that I don’t have much hair but the little bit that’s there
looks a whole lot better than Donald Trump’s
(Chorus)
Compared to F. Lee Bailey I am much more humble
I’m better mannered than Madona--and I’m nicer than Bryant Gumble
I’m a lot less geeky than Bill Gates, and while to brag I’m loathe
Pound for pound I’m lower-fat than Oprah or Meatloaf
I’ve never had much reason to brag about my looks
But I know I look at least as good as that chubby old Garth Brooks
And someone’s got to say it--so I guess I’ll be the one...
I’m a whole lot smarter than either Brooks or Dunn
I’m tougher than Katie Couric--I’m more flexible than the Pope
I’m a better singer than John Wayne--a better golfer than Bob Hope
My hair color’s more natural than Bozo or Lucille Ball
I don’t need as much make-up as Dennis Rodman or RuPaul
The songs I write are better than that dumb MTV trash
I’ve got more colors in my wardrobe than Clint Black or Johnny Cash
I get in far less trouble than the President--for sure!
And I’m a whole lot less stiff than Albert Gore
(Chorus)
